There may only be a few phrases that might be better to hear from another person than those words. “Thank you” shows appreciation, gives value, and expresses gratitude. Thank you shows the other person that what they have done matters; that they matter!
It is usually easy to say “thank you”, but sometimes it isn’t. It is always right though. God likes to hear “thank you” too. Isn’t that hard sometimes?!
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
It isn’t always easy to give thanks or to be thankful. Sometimes it simply feels impossible. We will not always feel thankful. We won’t always feel like giving thanks. I wish I could tell you the secret of how to be thankful when it’s hard, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
What I do know is that it is a choice. We can choose to give thanks even when we don’t feel like it. It isn’t easy, but there is more to life than “easy”. What I’ve found though is that when I give thanks, especially when it’s difficult to do, it begins the process of feeling thankful. It might be a slow process, but it is progress nonetheless. The more we give thanks the more we feel thankful.
If we wait until we “feel it” then we won’t do it. The lack of a spirit of thanksgiving can lead to bitterness, ungratefulness, and selfishness. It does good for us to say thank you even to God. It does our hearts good. I can’t explain that, but it’s true. Gods Kingdom is a paradox.
Being thankful makes life better! So give thanks today!
