No Place For A Guy Like Me

il_340x270.849270997_jqssA few weeks back a local Pastor came in to deliver a check to us. While he was here we struck up a conversation, and he shared his testimony with a couple of us. I cannot do his story justice, but there was one thing he said that struck me like a pancake skillet. (Not that I know what that feels like.) He said, “I didn’t think the world needed a guy like me.”

In the midst of his deep pain and hopelessness, this was the weightiest thought in his mind. So he attempted to take his life twice. Thank God he failed. Through a series of people and events he realized that there was a place for him in this world. Not just any place, but a place and a purpose that was specifically designed and planned for him by God!

I wondered right then how many of our kids feel that exact same way – wondering, if not doubting, if there is a place in this world for them. Many have been hurt, abandoned, forgotten, and left feeling far from valuable. There is a place in this world for them! A place designed and planned for them that only they can fill – a place of unfathomable value. One of our jobs here is to help cause that truth to become reality to our kids.

I’ve felt that same way at times; maybe you have too. One thing is for sure – there is a place in this world for you. I know this for certain! Know how I know? God made you. He made me. He made each one of our kids. He made each of us for a reason, for a purpose, and with a great deal of love. God never made an accident, He never made a mistake, and He never made trash. You have a special place in this world, and you are far more valuable than anything the world has ever known.

Even more so than the tree in the picture above – God will always find a way for those He loves to live, grow, and thrive! Even in the most peculiar, traumatic, or difficult situations – there is a place for you and you can thrive!

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. – John 10:10 NIV
